What is Minecraft?Every day around the world, teachers are educating and engaging their students using the world-building game Minecraft. The game is a true phenomenon and gamers young and old are using it in countless creative ways. Practitioners of Games Based Education have realized the potential and have embraced Minecraft in their classrooms and now you can too. Minecraft: Creative Mode
The objective of the game is to break and place 3D blocks to create a 'World'. There are many different types of blocks that the player can select (ie. dirt, stone, water, tree trunks, etc...) and place where ever they would like on a set grid. Game players are able to construct anything from rivers to homes. As well, student can select a variety of tool to help them accomplish their goals. For instance, some of the tools are; Pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, fishing rod, ect... Players are also able to play within the same world as other players making it very interactive.

MinecraftEdu is the collaboration of a small team of educators and programmers from the United States and Finland working with Mojang AB of Sweden, the creators of Minecraft, to make the game affordable and accessible to schools everywhere. They have also created a suite of tools that make it easy to unlock the power of Minecraft in YOUR classroom. Using the World Building tools you are able to customize worlds to help suit your educational needs.
